The Borough’s World: Samosa Itineraries by Mila T Samdub

$30.00

Folded as a samosa, this is a feverish research into the history and mutation of the samosa in relation to the migration of its eaters, mapped onto Queens — from Roosevelt Avenue to Rego Park to Astoria. Inside the golden fried wrapper, you will find a glorious photograph of a samosa Mila took near Dharamshala, India; a list of names for samosa in 22 scripts; the first attested drawing of samosa in a medieval Indian cook book; and a diagram composed by Mila to differentiate samosa and singhara: one traveled by land, the other by sea.

This is the second issue of Queens Things — an imprint for collaborative, multilingual, and serial artists’ books, inspired by and devoted to the local yet worldly everyday life of Queens, New York. Initiated by Chang Yuchen in 2024.

Designed and published by Yuchen. Open edition. Two laser-printed sheets and one inkjet photograph, hand-cut and hand-folded. 7 × 7 × 7 in. (folded).
