A Song of West Islet , video, 6:53 (2010)

“A Song of West Islet” is a Chinese poem composed in Southern and Northern Dynasties. The rhythmic and musical reading experience contrasts with the obscurity of its narrative. Where is the West Islet, here or the far away? Who is singing this song, she who is yearning for the beloved, or he who is picturing a remote lover, or a narrator outside of the story just like me? After all, she is the only character in the poem, wandering between lovesickness and narcissism; and wherever she’s present becomes a theatre full of imaginary audience.
